Legislation has been passed to enhance sharing information between state agencies. The bill also prohibits individuals from collecting state benefit payments that should have ended. State Representative Dwight Kay passed the new bill.  House Bill 3311 states that at least once every month, the Department of Human Services must cross-reference its roster of recipients of public aid with the death records information from the Electronic Data Warehouse at the Department of Healthcare and Family Services. Kay says the bill aims at saving the state a significant amount of money.

The bill provides that a public aid recipient who has been caught with a death on record will have an immediate cancellation of his or her public aid benefits, including the cancellation of their LINK card. The measure was approved in the House on a vote of 114-0 and now heads to the Senate.
