Besides working through crowds while you’re doing your holiday shopping, there’s something else you should be worried about: identity theft.
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says her office saw a spike in complaints about data breaches at retailers in 2014—which Madigan is dubbing the “year of the security breach.”
“Over this past year, we have seen, time and again, almost every week, the announcement by a major retailer that they have been attacked by cyber criminals, and that millions of people’s credit card and debit card and other personal financial information has been illegally obtained,” Madigan said.
That’s why Madigan is including tips on avoiding identity theft in her office’s annual safe shopping guide. Her tips include setting up alerts on your credit and debit cards so you know when they’re being used, and regularly reviewing your credit report. See more at:
