The possibility of a new connector road between Alton and Godfrey is closer than ever, as the Illinois Department of Transportation has revealed the proposed path for the future highway. It would run from Alton Square Mall Drive and U.S. 67 north to Illinois 255 near Wenzel Road, with an offshoot to the west that would hook into Humbert Road near Tolle Lane. This plan is not set in stone, however, as IDOT is still soliciting comment on the proposal.
After the comments are considered, IDOT Location Studies Engineer Cindy Stafford tells The Big Z there is more study to do.

IDOT believes future traffic projections show there will eventually be a need for another north-south connection between U.S. 67 and Illinois 255. Stafford says funding for this project is included in the department’s Multi-Year Plan.
