The Alton City Council Committee of the Whole has introduced a modified resolution it hopes will end the practice of unauthorized fishing at the Alton Marina. The issue first came to the city council in the summer, but was killed due to the wording. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers had an issue with the resolution because it specifically pointed to fishing as a prohibited activity.
This new wording should cover that activity, and others, according to Phil Roggio,Alton's Director of Development and Housing.
Boat owners have complained about cut or broken fishing lines floating in the marina water getting caught in their propellers, while others have noticed fishing hooks laying around where people could easily step on them. There are those who contend it is their right to fish wherever they want, since the marina is public property.
