Progress is being made to fix the Florence Bridge in Western Illinois. The bridge, at Florence, Ill., carries Routes 100/106 over the Illinois River between Pike and Scott counties. It’s a drawbridge standing open until the repairs are made. Josh Kauffman, spokesman for the Illinois Department of Transportation, says a routine inspection turned up structural deficiencies.

“Contracts are under way to be awarded for the procurement of materials to be used on that bridge, and, obviously, following that would be the actual procurement of a contractor to repair the bridge as soon as possible,” says Kauffman. The bridge repair, expected to be finished next spring, would reconnect Winchester and Pittsfield. The alternate route is I-72.
