“It depends on what people are willing to do to make things change,” says Kamau Kemayo, chairman of African-American studies at the University of Illinois Springfield. “It is a desperate situation for people in the inner cities that are seeing children literally killed. It's a problem; people have reached their boiling point.” If anything works, Kemayo says, it's education and communication: talking to your kids about positive things people are doing.
