A Wood River man has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years probation following his guilty plea to criminal sexual abuse. 29-year-old Kassidy Kueper of the 100 block of Summit Hill Road received the maximum probation allowed, and is required to undergo sex offender counseling and treatment while having no contact with the victims. He must also register as a sex offender.
In accepting the plea deal and subsequent sentencing, one factor that was taken into consideration was that the young victims would not have to testify in open court. With the plea, Kueper admits he sexually abused a child while at his job at the Edwardsville YMCA last summer. Two girls, ages 8 and 9, claim he touched them inappropriately while at summer camp. Kueper was suspended by the organization after the first charges and was subsequently dismissed from his part-time position.
