An East Alton man was sentenced to 30 months probation and has been ordered to pay restitution after pleading guilty to stealing copper from his former employer. 56 year old Timothy Fee was one of several people charged in 2010 and 2011 with stealing copper from Global Brass and Copper, or Olin Brass, with some company estimates in the millions of dollars.
Fee was accused of loading copper into an Allied Waste truck, which was then later sold for scrap. Fee pleaded guilty in February in Madison County Court to theft and will serve 30 months probation and must pay back 48-thousand dollars to the company. The amount of restitution however was just set and was the last part of the case to be determined. The driver of the waste truck, 37 year old Sonny Carter of Bunker Hill has a criminal case pending against him in connection with the theft. There are four others also facing theft charges, 46 year old Larry Thompson of Alton, 45 year old Dale Reese of Alton, 45 year old Rickey Carter of Cottage Hills and 30 year old David Whitman of Godfrey. The cases have been investigated by East Alton Police and the FBI.
