A Holiday Shores woman will serve three years probation and must repay nearly $90,000 she admitted stealing from a local business. 29 year old Jamie Gajewski admitted to felony theft over $10,000 in Madison County Court and was sentenced on Tuesday. Gajewski worked as a teller for First National Bank of Staunton and would take some of the money deposited by a local grocery store.
The owner of Behme's Market agreed to the plea deal with Gajewski to allow her to pay back the money and avoid jail time. She could have received up to seven years in jail, but prosecutors said she did not have a prior criminal record. The thefts took place over the course of a year beginning in January of 2011. Market owner Robert Behme said he began to notice shortages in his bank accounts and contacted police. The Madison County Sheriff's Department traced the missing deposits back to Gajewski and charges were filed in March.
