The Third Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee and Madison County Bar Association are holding a seminar this Friday to train more lawyers to help those need family law advice in the Circuit's Pro Bono programs. The demand for appointments to answer family law questions in the Legal Advice Clinic is huge, and a number of attorneys requested additional training in order to volunteer for these appointments, according to the chair of the Pro Bono Committee
The creation of the Third Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee came about nearly a year ago. Land of Lincoln Attorney Joan Spiegel helped design the program. She says the committee chair, Circuit Judge Barb Crowder, is a big supporter of this program.
There are more than 150 Madison County lawyers who provide hundreds of hours of free legal help each year to those unable to afford an attorney. This training session is called "Pro Bono Advice: Effectively Handling Legal Advice Clinic Family Appointments." It will last from 1-4:15pm at the Madison County Board Room, and is free with three hours of continuing education credit. Any attorneys that would like to register can call 296-5921.
