Madison County Treasurer Kurt Prenzler has called his opponent in the upcoming election a “Chemetco insider,” claiming she and her husband benefited from the now closed Hartford business before it declared bankruptcy in 2001. Marleen Suarez called the timing of Prenzler’s accusations suspicious, and denied any wrongdoing.
On Thursday, Prenzler held a news conference in which he claimed Suarez and her husband Daniel, benefited with payments of nearly $90-thousand in fraudulent transfers to B. Garcia Trucking, and that a cousin of Daniel Suarez was at one time a manager of Chemetco. Suarez says Prenzler is only firing back after she accused him on Wednesday of breaking the law in making an illegal tax sale in 2013 to a political supporter. Prenzler says his announcement was previously planned and had nothing to do with the accusations leveled by Suarez. Election day is November 4th.
