Ameren's power generating plants in Illinois will not be be going dark, according to officials with the Saint Louis-based utility. Some media outlets had reported Ameren would be shutting the plants down in light of new environmental regulations and the inability to turn a big enough profit. Ameren spokesman Brian Bretsch says that is not the case.
Bretsch says no immediate impact is expected on any operations in Illinois. He says Ameren has decided moving forward to focus on its state utility businesses, as well as the power transmission end of the business.
