A 74-year-old man from Tulsa, Oklahoma was arrested in Madison County last week after Illinios State Police say officers seized 77 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop near Troy. The stop happened Tuesday on Interstate 55 as Refugio Salazar was traveling north at about 8:40am. The stop was initiated for "improper lane usage," but the trooper got suspicious, and asked for permission to search the truck.
After receiving consent from Salazar, the trooper allegedly discovered three duct-taped bundles of marijuana stored inside a stack of plywood. The 77 pounds of pot has a street value of about $350,000. Salazar was taken to the Madison County Jail on suspicion of drug trafficking. He is being held on a $250,000 bond.
