A number of parents in the Alton School District have reportedly been approached by scammers claiming to represent the district. They ask for the names and ages of the children in the family, and then try to sell curriculum materials they say will be required by the schools.
The district's Assistant Superintendent Kristie Baumgartner says this is not the case.
She says the district received enough calls that they sent out a mass message through their automatic phone system warning the parents of the scam. If you have been approached by these men, you are urged to call the Alton Police at 463-3505, or the Madison County Sheriff's Department at 692-4433.
