Madison County gets a failing grade when it comes to air quality. That's according to the American Lung Association, which claims the county's ozone layer has high levels of pollution and can cause serious health problems. The cities of St. Louis and Chicago were also given failing grades for air quality.
ALA officials say several groups are vulnerable to the harmful ozone effects, including children, teens, people who work outside, and people who already have some form of lung disease, asthma, or bronchitis. They say people in the city can take steps to clean up the air by driving less and using less electricity.
