A recent trip to Mississippi by Alton Police Detectives is the latest development in a seven-year-old murder case. DaRon Hearn was fatally shot outside of the Oakwood Estates public housing complex in April of 2007. There are said to be numerous witnesses, but an apparent code of silence exists, and none of those witnesses have cooperated with police to the extent an arrest has been made.
Breaking the code of silence has been a work in progress for the Alton Police Department, which continues to work a number of cold cases. Public Information Officer Emily Hejna says your help could bring peace to a grieving family.

In addition to the Hearn case, Julianne Marie Gottlob died in 1986, found strangled in her home on Belle Street. Kristy Black was stabbed multiple times before her body was dumped near the boat launch area at Piasa Harbor in 2001. The Bonnie Woodward case, though technically still classified as a missing persons case, continues to be investigated as a homicide. She has not been seen since June of 2010. There is no statute of limitations on murder, so if anyone knows anything about any of these cases, they are asked to call Alton Police at 463-3505, ext. 225, or the anonymous tip line at 465-5948.
