Checking local police reports provided this morning to Z-1570, Alton Police report the recent Amnesty Day was a success. A total of 139 people were able to clear 243 non-arrest warrants during the event. No arrests were made. The Amnesty Day was the second in recent years, with the first back in 2010 when 109 people took part and cleared their warrants. The offenses were misdemeanors like city ordinance violations or traffic tickets that people had not addressed. During the event, citizens were able to pay their tickets, or set up a way to pay off the debt. Felony warrants and warrants from other jurisdictions were not eligible for the day, and officials are now considering holding the Amnesty Days more often.
Elsewhere, there was no one new reported held during the other local jail checks earlier today.
