Checking local police reports provided this morning to The Big Z, the Madison County Sheriff's Office reports 35-year old Haley L. Duckett of the 2710 block of Shordell Drive in Godfrey has been charged with felony retail theft under $300 following an incident at the Godfrey Wal-Mart on Thursday. According to a report issued Friday, responding deputies stopped Duckett and a juvenile after the pair attempted to steal merchandise from the store. Duckett was taken into custody and transported to the Madison County Jail where she is being held on a $20,000 bond. The juvenile was released pedning a a hearing with the Madison County State's Attorney's Juvenile Division.
Edwardsville Police report charges stemming from a criminal sexual abuse case involving a child that is more than six years old. Authorities say 48-year old Michael E. Nelson, was taken into custody Friday following an investigation into allegations made by a child. Nelson has been charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault. According to the charges filed by the Madison County State's Attorney's Office, Nelson committed the crimes between March 2005 and September 2011. He is being held on a $250,000 bond.
Authorities are also searching for a suspect who attempted to cash a forged check at U.S. Bank on State Street in Alton last weekend. The Madison County State's Attorney's Office reports that 18-year old Lemarius D. Logan of Fairview Heights has been charged with felony counts of theft over $10,000 and forgery after attempting to defraud another bank customer of more than $61,000. He is not in custody at this time, anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact their local police.
