In local police reports, charges have been filed against two people involved in an early morning retail theft at the Wood River Wal-Mart store earlier this month. 25-year-old Traveon Brown of O’Fallon, Illinois, has been charged with retail theft over $300. On January 7th, a suspect was seen leaving the store just after 3am with two HP computers without paying for the items. A store employee confronted the suspect, and the person said they had a gun. The suspect got into a vehicle and fled the scene and authorities believe Brown was the driver of the car. A 17-year-old juvenile from East St. Louis is facing juvenile court charges in connection with the incident.
Police are also looking for 27 year old Jesse Knighton of Alton for fleeing or attempting to elude police in connection with an incident on the afternoon of January 6. A Wood River officer attempted to pull over a green Dodge Caravan on a traffic violation near 6th Street and Ferguson Avenue, but the driver allegedly fled the scene at a high rate of speed. Police say the driver ran several red lights as it was pursued along the Berm Highway where the chase was ended by officers due to the high speeds and increased traffic heading into Alton. Knighton was spotted by an Alton Police officer near the scene and identified. The charges against Knighton were filed on Wednesday.
