In local police reports provided to the Big Z, Wood River Police are investigating a home break-in, and another attempted break-in, on Thursday afternoon. In one case in the 1100 block of Cedar, a woman who was home at the time surprised the burglar as he was going through jewelry in her bedroom. The man fled out a back window where he had initially gained entry around Noon. Police later learned of an attempted break in at a home on Red Bud Drive, but the person failed to gain entry. In that case, someone was also home at the time. Police attempted to search for the suspect using a canine unit, but were unable to find him. Wood River Police describe the suspect as a white male in his mid 20’s with mustache and beard, and was wearing a dark sweatshirt and blue jeans. The residential area where the suspect was last seen is just northeast of the Madison County Health Department. Anyone who may have seen someone matching a description should contact Wood River Police at 251-3113.
Alton Police continue to investigate a shooting they believe is drug-related. The incident happened Tuesday night around 9:00 in the 2,200 block of Locust Street. The victim was inside a vehicle with other people when the suspect who was standing outside of the vehicle shot him in the stomach. The victim was driven to an Alton hospital and then taken to a hospital in St. Louis for further treatment. The gunshot wound was not life threatening and the victim is in good condition.
