One local police chief is trying to change the stereotype you may have of police. In many cases, your only interaction with law enforcement will be on one of your worst days, so South Roxana Police Chief Bob Coles is trying to change the stereotypical interaction during random encounters.

Coles says even though you may be joking, kids start to form a distrust of police and become reluctant to go to seek out police if they are experiencing problems. Coles has recently instituted a program where kids stuck in the middle of a domestic dispute that brings them to the police station can pick out a toy and take it home.
