If you plan on traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday police around the state want to make sure you get to your destination safely. To that end, the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police, and other local law enforcement agencies are joining forces to enforce seatbelt and impaired driving laws.
Illinois State Police District 18 Trooper Heath Bryan tells The Big Z the more rural area of District 18 based in Litchfield isn't that much different from policing in the more urban areas such as seen in neighboring District 11, which is headquartered in Collinsville.

As is the case with any holiday, law enforcement suggests you designate a driver if you plan to drink while celebrating, and recommends calling a cab if you are unable to designate a driver before festivities begin. Motorists can normally expect to see a larger police presence on area roadways, especially late at night when seatbelt use is at its lowest and impaired driving is the biggest problem.
