The Wood River Police Department is working with an architect to finalize plans for a new police station, and the Police Chief updated the City Council on their progress this week. Last year British Petroleum (BP) has come to an agreement with the city for the construction of a $7.8 million facility to house the department at the southwest corner of Highway 143 at 6th Street.
Otis Steward says they are getting close to having a final set of plans in their hands. He says the building should reflect the area in which it is being built.

The new police station will be about 20-thousand square feet and would include a communications center, eight cells, a sally port, a workout room and locker room and a training facility that could be used by other departments. He hopes to have a groundbreaking scheduled sometime this summer.
