Groundbreaking for the new Wood River Police Department building should be getting closer. The new police station will be about 20-thousand square feet and would include a communications center, eight cells, a sally port, a workout room and locker room and a training facility that could be used by other departments.
Wood River Police Chief Otis Steward tells The Big Z they are waiting on permits.

He says the new police department at the southwest corner of Highway 143 at 6th Street should take about 14 months to complete.
The Wood River Police will also be conducting an active shooter training drill this (Tuesday) morning at the Lewis & Clark Elementary School.
