The pending partnership between Saint Anthony’s Health System of Alton and OSF Healthcare System of Peoria has received two more approvals needed before the deal is final. In addition to approval from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board, the blessing of the Vatican was received this week.
As first reported on The Big Z in March, the deal has been discussed for the past five to six years according to the Chairman of the OSF Board, Kevin Schoeplein.

Schoeplein says the long-term plan is to grow opportunities for employment while remaining a respected member of the local community. The approval from Rome moves Saint Anthony’s closer to closing on the deal with an October 31 target date.
