Several of Alton's neighborhood parks are getting a new lease on life, thanks to the efforts of a team of volunteers. Dorman Park on East 7th Street is being targeted, as is Northside Park in North Alton. Volunteers there are doing a massive upgrade that includes leveling the baseball field, replacing the dugout benches and fence line, relocating of the swing set within the park, and improving the parking areas.
Alton Park & Recreation Deputy Director Rhonda Lewis says a community group is taking the initiative to get that park spruced up.
Another project slated for our park system is scheduled for April 20th at Rock Spring park. Over 1200 middle school students are expected to work that day, getting equipment cleaned up and spruced up, leaves raked limbs gathered and other tasks. Upper Alton business association gathered on the 21st of March and worked on the waterfall area to clear it of vines and volunteer trees.
