Some holiday shoppers are going to dish out more money than they expected this year. Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White says 31 people were ticketed over the weekend for parking in handicapped parking spaces. White says the mission of the crackdown is not to make money or give tickets but to make sure those who are disabled have access to designated parking spaces.
He says most of the tickets were for illegally using someone else's disability placard or license plates to get a front row spot.
White says they are looking into raising those fines even higher. The stings will continue through the end of the year.
