The East End Improvement Association has picked one of its own to be the Grand Marshal of the 2012 Alton Halloween Parade. The group has chosen Larry Roberts, who is marking his 50th year of assisting in the parade, which has been around for 96 years. The parade is held each Halloween night along Broadway in Alton.
Parade chairperson James Leonard:
Leonard says they have about 60 units already lined up for the parade from local schools, to scout troops, businesses, civic groups and families. The parade starts at 7:30pm on October 31 from Broadway and Washington and moves west to Piasa Street and then turns north, ending at 9th Street. The Alton Halloween Parade is believed to be the oldest in the country.
