When Abe Lincoln was campaigning or circuit-riding in De Witt County, he just may have seen what is now Illinois' tallest ash tree.  Illinois Department of Agriculture officials oversaw the Arborjet company's application of a product which is supposed to guard against the tree-destroying emerald ash borer.

“They've injected a product called TREE-age – emamectin benzoate – into the root flares of the three,” says Mark Cinnamon, “the tree systemically takes in the product and translocates it.”  If any pests are there, they'll die.  But it's preventive; there's no way of knowing whether it's infested until it's too late.
The EAB has been in Illinois for at least seven years. Cinnamon says within another ten years, it will have made its way into all of Illinois' 102 counties.
