An Edwardsville Police Officer has been placed on administrative leave without pay after being charged with numerous burglaries. 41-year-old Brian Barker is charged with Burglary and Official Misconduct in connection with a burglary at Reality Salon and Spa over the weekend, and an additional eleven Burglary charges, a Residential Burglary charge and Aggravated Unlawful Possession of Stolen Firearms charge for unsolved crimes dating back to 2012.
It is alleged he was seen on the salon’s security system, which led to further investigation and the additional charges. Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons tells The Big Z this behavior is not typical of area law enforcement.

After learning of the initial incident, Edwardsville police Chief Jay Keeven contacted Madison County Sheriff John Lakin and the Madison County Sheriff’s Department to assist in the investigation. If convicted, he could face up to 30 years in prison for the most serious of the charges, a Class X felony for the stolen firearms charge.
