A fire in an Edwardsville office building that contains a state rep’s headquarters is being called suspicious. Officials won’t say exactly why, only suggesting that there are clear signs that the fire may not have been an accident. Republican State Representative Dwight Kay’s offices are in the building along with an insurance office and three small offices in the basement.
The Edwardsville fire chief says half the building was damaged by fire and the other half has smoke damage, but the office remains structurally sound. There was no one inside the building when the fire report was called in just before 9pm Monday. The office is located just off Highway 157 on South Pointe Drive. A passing motorists noticed smoke and called 9-1-1. Kay says he hopes to announce satellite office hours soon where constituents can meet with his staff if needed, or they can still call or email his office at 618-307-9200 or at email@example.com.
