The Alton/Godfrey Rotary Club recently honored two more students as the October Students of the Month.  Marquette Catholic's Taylor Rook and Alton High's Madison Bemis received their awards at the monthly Rotary meeting Monday.  This is the 18th year for the program, and more than 300 students have received this honor since the program’s inception.

Rook is the daughter of Edward and Kristin Rook of Florissant, Missouri.   She is a High Honor Roll student who is also an active member of the National Honor Society and the Breast Cancer Awareness Club.  Rook has been a member of the dance, soccer and volleyball teams, and currently is Student Council President.   She plans to pursue a major in Business at a college that is to be determined.
Madison Bemis is the daughter of F. Ryan and Kristin Bemis of Alton.  Currently President of the National Honor Society, she has been active in music since she began attending school. She has played the violin for thirteen years and has been a member of the Alton High symphonic orchestra and earned first place ratings in a number of IHSA state wide solo and ensemble competitions.  Bemis has been a member of the Student Council for four years and has been very active in a number of student organizations as well as being a key member of the Redbird girl’s softball team. After graduating Bemis plans to attend Illinois State University and major in Actuarial Science and Music.

Students selected for this honor are eligible to compete for a $5,000 scholarship, which will be presented to one of the students selected as "Student of the Month" later this year.
