Local law enforcement agencies across Illinois are teaming up to crack down on the lack of seat belt use and other traffic violations throughout the month of November. The special Traffic Enforcement, or s.T.E.P. Patrols, will run through November 30.
Illinois State Police Trooper Mike Link says there will be hundreds of troopers teaming up with local law enforcement around the Riverbend and throughout the state.
He says speeding is a contributing factor in 31% of all fatal crashes nationwide, and 37% in Illinois. He says troopers will also be watching out for drunk drivers, especially around Thanksgiving. Special Traffic Enforcement Patrols are funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation's Division of Traffic Safety.
