There are no plans to close the SIUE School of Pharmacy, according to a University spokesman. The issue was raised in response to word Governor Pat Quinn's proposed state budget calls for elimination of all funding at the school, as well as the two other pharmacy schools in the state - both of those in far northern Illinois.
Director of Marketing and External Affaird Doug McIlhagga:
The elimination of all funding amounts to a $1.2-million hit, and is in addition to an overall decrease in SIUE's state funding. Funding for the pharmacy schools comes from licensing fees paid by pharmacists and other licensed profesisonals. The pharmacy school was founded in 2005.
