The Grafton planning commission has squashed a plan for a new bed & breakfast. The proposed Brendel Guest House will not be allowed under current regulations. The proposed amendment to the city code creating a legal definition for guesthouses and allowing those facilities in residential areas was defeated by a 4-3 vote.
Grafton Mayor Tom Thompson tells The Big Z bed and breakfasts fall under state rules.
Thompson says they will go back to the drawing board and try again. He says the facility would not be a true bed and breakfast, since this plan would have had the owners staying there only when the guests arrived.
