Word of a ten-percent reduction in the ConocoPhillips workforce traveled fast earlier this week after the energy giant made the announcement.  Some concerns over what that means for workers in the Riverbend are unfounded, according to a Wood River Refinery spokesman, since it is no longer a part of ConocoPhillips, and hasn’t been for some time.

Melissa Erker tells The Big Z there are still many who refer to the refinery by any of a number of the names it has gone by in the past 20 years or so.

The energy industry is preparing for a slump.  Altogether, nearly 120-thousand workers in the energy industry have lost their jobs as oil prices have been cut in half over the last year.
