Negotiations between the Alton Education Association and the Alton School District are set to resume next week. After the membership shot down the district's latest offer on Tuesday, both sides are eager to get back to the bargaining table to try and work out their differences while there is still time to do so.
The sticking point is apparently the salary re-opener in the current contract, which is in its last year. Alton School District Finance Director Christopher Norman seems hopeful an agreement is coming.
AEA President Edie Banks says they hope to sit down again with the district to try to move toward middle ground.
About 98-percent of those attending the meeting this week, voted against the offer from the school district. Contract talks stalled last week between the Alton School District and the Alton Education Association.
