The newest Illinois state representative has reported the news and been in the news. Sara Wojcicki Jimenez, a onetime television reporter assigned to the Capitol, is Springfield-area Republicans' choice for the seat vacated by Raymond Poe, the governor's choice to be the new director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture. “I really am in the mode that I am trying to make a difference,” she says, “and bring my experience both in journalism and in state government to the House floor.”

After her stint for a Springfield tee vee station, Jimenez was a spokeswoman for then-Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, then-House Minority Leader Tom Cross, and most recently was chief of staff to Illinois first lady Diana Rauner. It made a spectacle of Jimenez because of the state's difficult budget situation which still allowed the unelected Mrs. Rauner a state-paid $100,000 employee. “I will tell you that first ladies all across the first ladies have staff. First ladies get lots and lots of requests and correspondence,” Jimenez says, noting she also was in charge of the staff of the Executive Mansion, which is undergoing major renovation.
