The Illinois secretary of state’s office is urging vehicle owners to sign up for registration renewal notices via e-mail. They’re trying to save paper, and save money on printing costs and postage, says Secretary of State Jesse White.“Vehicle owners began receiving paperless renewals in September. So far, over 20,000 license plate renewal notices have been sent via e-mail. More than 330,000 requests have been taken for those who want to receive vehicle registrationrenewals be e-mail,” he said.

For those who don’t sign up for an e-mail, the office is sending post cards, rather than return envelopes, to vehicle owners who historically have renewed on-line or in person. White says this has saved the office $550,000 in printing and postage.
