A new initiative spearheaded by the state comptroller’s office aims at connecting small businesses with state work.  Providing Opportunities for Work Through Education and Resources, or POWER, is the name of the initiative that teaches business owners about the state certification and procurement process.

State Comptroller Judy Barr Topinka says the initiative provides free guidance and ensures participating businesses are alerted to state contract opportunities.   “The success of our small businesses is key to getting our economy moving again to create the new jobs that are so badly needed,” Topinka said. “At the same time, POWER will expand our state contractor network, which will increase competition and ultimately save the state money.”  The POWER initiative will provide guidance to small and minority-owned businesses through the comptroller’s office as well as the local non-profits dedicated to entrepreneur education.
