The downtown Alton Farmer's and Artisan's Market opens tomorrow to what could be its biggest season yet. After big crowds and a record number of vendors last year, the market is expanding to a larger parking lot at the corner of 9th and Piasa Streets. The market runs every Saturday from 8am until Noon and will run until mid-October.
Alton Main Street Executive Director Sara McGibany is excited by the new location and is expecting even bigger and better things for this year:
The market will also be held on Wednesdays from 4-7pm at the same location. McGibany reminds potential vendors that any item sold must be either locally grown or at least 50-percent homemade to be included in the market. If you'd like to be a vendor, contact the Marketplace office at 463-1016. Weekly or seasonal rates are available.
