The cause of the structural damage to the Saints Peter and Paul School building is still being investigated, but students will finally head back to classes next week at a temporary location. The small Catholic school in Alton has worked out a deal with the Alton School District to use Mark Twain School on Milton Road.
A teacher who went to work in her classroom between Christmas and New Year’s discovered the damage, including a large crack in the foundation and basement floor. Saints Peter and Paul Principal Harry Cavanaugh says they’re still trying to determine the exact cause, but met with parents last weekend to talk about the future:

Cavanaugh says a cleaning crew will work on preparing the classrooms at Mark Twain this afternoon and tomorrow, with a moving crew working on Friday. Classes for the 89 students will start up again on Monday morning.
