The City of Alton could soon have a new agreement with Argosy Gaming. The Committee of the Whole unanimously approved the new contract with the casino company regarding a lease agreement for valet parking, as well as a head tax on patrons to cover the lease. The new deal, if approved tomorrow night, would expire in 2041.
Last night, alderman said "yes" to the deal that would allow the head tax to be cut in half...from 30-cents to 15-cents per patron until June 18, 2017, when the tax would end. At that point, Argosy would pay the city $50,000 per year until June of 2041 to lease the parking spaces near the ConAgra Mill that are used for valet parking. The company does not lease any other parking space at Riverfront Park.
