Teachers in theSouthwesternSchool Districthave a new contract. The Southwestern School Board voted 6-1 to accept a new one-year agreement that includes a 2-percent pay increase. The Southwestern Teachers Association approved the contract during a vote by members last week. The pay increase covers teachers at all levels.
The Board learned that enrollment is down slightly from last year, and Superintendent Brad Skertich says that will impact state aid payments. He said, for example, Kindergarten enrollment in the district is 98 students, down from 117 last year. The district did rehire a few teachers aides that were laid off at the end of the last school year, and hired two pre-kindergarten teachers. The board also voted to approve sending two board members to the Illinois Association of School Boards convention inChicago. Board President Rodney Bailey and member Steve Reed agreed to attend and pay their own way, with the board paying the $360 registration fee. Superintendent Skertich will also attend.
