A new contract between the Village of Godfrey and its Teamsters Union, which covers street department employees, has been ratified, but not without some disagreement among the trustees. With the new contract there will be a savings of about $600 a year on each employee, but Trustee Jeff Weber feels the union members should have to pay into their health insurance coverage, as do the rest of the employees of the Village.
That prompted this exchange between he and Mayor Mike McCormick.

Trustee Mike Stumpf felt safety bonuses should be a gift from the Village, and not something guaranteed by contract. Stumpf and Weber voted no, and the contract was approved. The Teamsters Union is the only union in Godfrey government, overseeing a little more than a half-dozen workers in the street department.
