A man who was charged last week in a kidnapping case out of Jersey County is now facing charges in neighboring Calhoun County. 36 year old Jonathan Trexler of Bunker Hill, was charged Monday with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. He remains in custody.
The Calhoun County State’s Attorney issued the charges because Trexler, who had allegedly kidnapped his estranged wife from her home in Jersey County on Wednesday, was found in a trailer in Michael Hollow in Calhoun County on Thursday. Authorities say Trexler struck his victim in the head with a wine bottle and was also in possession of cocaine at the time of his arrest. He was charged last Friday in Jersey County with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated criminal sexual assault, and home invasion following the incident in which he allegedly took his estranged wife from her home in rural Jersey County and held her at the trailer in Calhoun County. The victim was able to escape from the trailer once police found the couple last Thursday but Trexler refused to surrender for a time before finally giving up without further incident. Bond is set at $500,000 in each county.
