The Alton Police Department has a new contract and a new chaplain. The new Alton Police Benevolent and Protective Association Patrol Contract has been approved, following the Alton City Council vote Wednesday night. But before that came to pass, 31-year-old Jason Harrison was sworn in and will join Marc Lane in performing chaplain duties.
Harrison currently serves as the Youth Pastor at the Deliverance Temple in Alton. Alton Police Chief Jason Simmons explains what a chaplain does.

The new contract is much like the previous ones, but there are a few changes that both sides hope will make for a good workplace. The contract calls for a 1.5% raise for 2014 and 2015, and a 1.75% raise next year, and a 2% raise in 2017. There will also be a lottery process for overtime sign up and a committee to update the promotional process.
