After serving as the deputy circuit clerk for 15 years, Judy Nelson has taken the top job in the office. Nelson was sworn in during Wedensday's County Board Meeting following the board's unaminimous approval of a recommendation made by chairman Alan Dunstan.
Dunstan says that the decision to nominate Nelson was a no-brainer.
Nelson is a Collinsville resident and will hold the post for 5 months until the election. Current Democratic Madison County Clerk Mark Von Nida is running for the circuit clerk's post, along with Republican John Barberis, Junior, this fall. The post of deputy clerk will not be filled until after the election. Nelson has been serving as the acting circuit clerk since Matt Melucci's death last month from cancer.
