Illinois' civil union law is not quite six months old, but one advocacy group says it is already proving very successful. The group, Equality Illinois, says 37-hundred couples have been to see a judge for a civil unions since unions were legalized in June.
There is an even distribution across the state, with just over half of civil unions occurring in Cook County. But 12-hundred unions were approved across downstate Illinois. Equality Illinois says 90 of the state's 102 counties performed a civil union in 2011.
