The Watershed Nature Center in Edwardsville was the target of vandals last Friday, but the alleged criminals left behind evidence and posted pictures of their work on line, helping police track them down. Authorities say a group of teenage girls was responsible for the damage.
The center’s director actually viewed photos of the damage when it was posted on Facebook. She saved the posts and contacted police who were then able to track down the suspects. The girls had apparently taken photos of themselves and their graffiti damage of a trail and a railroad bridge, and even left the cans of paint behind along with their names that were spray-painted on some of the property. Charges against the girls are pending. The center installed new security cameras throughout the property on Monday that will be monitored by police.
